With the WSOP just less than one week away, let’s take a closer look at the current Female GPI POY rankings*. The last update was provided in July by Global Poker Index.

The Player of the Year race is in full swing and 2019 Female POY winner, Kristen Bicknell sits in 12th place, just outside of the current top 10.  Nadya Magnus has accumulated over 2,300 points since storming the felt in January 2021 at the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open.  In April, she cashed four times at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown followed by another successful series in Las Vegas. Her success has continued through August at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.  Nadya expressed her hopes for a WSOP bracelet on twitter so we know that she will be at the WSOP. Will Nadja break 3K in points and remain in the lead?

There is an 800-point difference between Nadja Magnus and Kyna England who sits in 2nd place with 1,543 points. Kyna finished 3rd in the WPT Venetian in July and has been cashing in many 1,100 Buy In tournaments.  The WPT Venetian final table was historical as three women made the final table: Kyna England, Kitty Kuo and Daniela Rodriquez. Kuo’s 6th place WPT finish is remarkable but in 41st place for POY. Kitty has tweeted her excitement to travel and playing the WSOP.

Gloria Jackson has been cashing throughout Florida and is in 3rd place with over 1K in points. On the other side of the world, Lidiia Beliaeva has been cashing in Sochi, Russia at various festivals and is in 4th place. We do not know Lidiia’s travel plans for the WSOP but Sochi will host the EPT in October and WSOP Europe is planned for November at King’s Resort in the Czech Republic.

Canadian, Louise Francoeur, has over 1K points as well and based on her Hendon Mob, has accrued her points in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Carla Gonzalez, Lisa Pickell and Jessica Vierling have also earned most of their points in Las Vegas but their WSOP plans have not been vocalized on twitter.

Although we have emphasized the WSOP, there are many other tournament series to accrue points in 2021.  The WSOP will play an important role as GPI scores are derived from a combination of a player’s finishing place percentage and buy-in factor.  The yearly POY rankings include only a player’s best 13 scores from January 1-December 31 each calendar year. For GPI rankings, events must be open to the public, so Ladies Only events and senior events are not included. This means, the winner of the WSOP Ladies Championship will not receive GPI points for the win. Full details and formulas can be found on the GPI website. The newest GPI scores are tallied every Friday.
